Christ Church, Bowling Green

After a successful 14-year tenure, the rector of the Diocese of Kentucky’s third largest parish, Christ Episcopal Church, Bowling Green, Ky., retired June 30, and the church is looking for a priest.

The only Episcopal congregation in Bowling Green and Warren County, Christ Church has a growing and active congregation with a chaplaincy connection with Western Kentucky University. The community is located in south central Kentucky with a population of about 100,000 persons.

The parish has 683 baptized members and an average Sunday attendance of 310. The interim period is expected to be about 18 months. Christ Episcopal Church has an annual ministries budget of slightly more than $600,000. A new educational/administration wing and parish hall was added approximately two years ago at a cost of approximately $3.4 million.

Christ Church is in the first full year of a three-year capital stewardship campaign to reduce its current indebtedness of slightly less than $3 million.  In April, prior to the rector’s announcement of his retirement, the parish completed the Church Assessment Tool (CAT). The results showed high parishioner satisfaction with the church and readiness to move forward with new ministries.  The full report is available at http://www.cecbg.org/images/Vital_Signs_Report.pdf
