According to the letter by Bishop Ted Gulick announcing the appointment, Bourlakas has previously served on a cathedral staff and has corporate church experience. "He is a caring pastor, a careful listener and thinker, and solidly grounded in his faith. The Cathedral has been greatly blessed," Gulick said. A copy of his biography may be found at St. Alban's Web site.
Bourlakas is expected to join the cathedral in mid-January.

To the people of God in Christ Church Cathedral:
Upon the recommendation of the Search Committee and the election of the Chapter, I am pleased to announce that I have appointed the Rev. Mark Bourlakas as the Dean of Christ Church Cathedral. It is my joy to announce that he has accepted his election and appointment. Our diligent Search Committee produced three superior finalists and with careful discernment chose Mark as their Nominee. He has served on the staff of a cathedral, has had corporate church experience, and is presently serving as the Rector of St. Alban’s Church in Davidson, N.C. He is a caring pastor, a careful listener and thinker, and solidly grounded in his faith. The Cathedral has been greatly blessed.
The Search Committee and Chapter have found our Dean; now it is up to the rest of us through prayer, volunteering of our time and abilities, and financial giving to do everything in our power to support Mark in this critical time in the Cathedral’s existence. We have chosen him to be our Dean, not our Messiah, and never has it been more important for each member of Christ Church Cathedral to be intentionally the hands and heart of Jesus Christ in this congregation.
It is hoped that Mark will be able to begin his ministry in mid-January. Please keep him, his present parish, and his family in prayer as they begin this season of transition and let us make sure that when he arrives that he will have a firm foundation of support.
