Shortly before Christmas, staff members at All Saints Camp and Conference Center began a major winter project: rebuild half of a bunkhouse so it will last an additional 35-40 years.
Last fall the conference center obtained a $12,000 Marmion loan to repair Clare Outrigger, which has suffered extensive damage to the southern half of its foundation and walls because of settling, worsened this year because of the summer drought. Clare is one of four bunkhouses located in the lower camp, which overlooks Rough River Lake. The outriggers primarily are used during the summer camping program, youth gatherings, and provide economy lodging for college student retreats.
Jim Wade, the All Saints' team leader, said the construction work is being done by staff members Tim Probus, Dolen Hunt and Adam Snell. In addition to replacing Clare's south walls and foundation, the team also plans to install an additional door. They expect the work to be completed in two or three months.
