Loading...St. Paul's Episcopal Church in New Albany in cooperation with Louisville-based Interfaith Paths to Peace, will present an Interfaith Prayer Service for Peace at 3 p.m. (EDT) on Saturday, June 4, 2011.
This annual service, held in the Church at at 1015 Main Street is, for the first time this year, being presented as part of St. Paul's "Art on the Parish Green" event; the interfaith service is free and open to the public.
The Interfaith service will include prayers, readings, reflections, music, chanting and a Native American ceremony.
Among the presentations will be:
- A welcome and prayer for peace from the Episcopal spiritual tradition by Rev. Mary Slenski, interim rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church,
- A Native American ceremony of the four directions performed by Rev. CJ Wright of the Rainbow Spiritual Education Center in Louisville,
- A reading from the Qur'an in Arabic with English translation by Muslim Ajeenah Sharif,
- A chant for peace by the Venerable E. Nanda Thero, a Sri Lankan Theravadan Buddhist monk based in Louisville,
- Music by Louisville poet, composer and folk musician, Misha Feigin who is a native of Russia,
- A reading by a representative of Louisville's Baha'i community from that religion's sacred writings,
- A reflection on peacemaking from the Jewish religious tradition by Fred Gross, 2010 Volunteer of the Year for the Jewish Community of Louisville,
- A reading in Sanskrit and English from the Bhagavad Gita by Sundar Sridharagopal of the Hindu Temple of Kentucky,
- A few words about peacemaking in an interfaith context by Terry Taylor, executive director of Interfaith Paths to Peace.
Art on the Parish Green
Here is additional information about the Art Fair:
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1015 E. Main St. in New Albany, is having its Art on the Parish Green, a fine arts and music festival, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Attendees will have the chance to preview and purchase handmade fine arts and crafts. Exhibits will be open until 6 p.m. Saturday with food and live music available until 9 p.m. Ages 21 and older can drink beer from The New Albanian Brewing Co. in the beer garden.
The YMCA of New Albany is sponsoring childrens activities, which will include arts and crafts.
Guests also can take carriage rides and visit the Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site, 914 E. Main St. in New Albany, which is holding a Victorian Arts Festival and Community Appreciation Open House from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission to the mansion’s festival is $1 per person.
