As the tides, Seamen's gift drive changes

Diocesan News & Publications

As the maritime industry changes, like the tides of the sea, the Seamen's Church Institute must adapt to the changing world of international commerce, and in response one longtime, well known program, the Christmas at Sea Gift Drive, has been updated to meet the changing needs of our mariners. Calendars, paperback books and Christmas cards are no longer being collected. Instead, the SCI, in consultation with our experienced chaplains, has created a new Christmas wish list of items being requested by mariners.

At the bottom of this announcement, you will find a link to SCI's Christmas at Sea Gift Drive brochure. It outlines the new list of things needed by mariners, including items such as unscented, colorless lip balm, microwave popcorn and books or activities like Sudoku.

Seamen's Church Institute works through of a network of volunteers around the United States. It is SCI's mission to welcome the sojourner in our land-men and women who make possible our modern lives. Parishes and individuals in the Diocese of Kentucky have responded to our appeal to help with this work, and it is this inter-dependant connection that forms a group of people committed to this specialized missionary work.
