The Rt. Rev. Gene Robinson, the bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire, will be visiting Church of The Advent this Sunday (July 17, 2011), and the Louisville congregation invites the people of our diocese to join them in welcoming him during his visit.
Robinson was elected the Bishop of New Hampshire in June 7, 2003, and his election approved that August by both houses of The Episcopal Church's General Convention. He was consecrated the ninth bishop of New Hampshire on Nov. 2, 2003, making him the first openly gay priest in a committed relationship to become a bishop.
He will preach at both Sunday services: 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. (childcare will be available at our 10:30 a.m. service). The church is also hosting an Adult Faith Forum with Robinson in the Upper Hall from 12 to 1 p.m. (all times Eastern Daylight Time).
Sunday night, the congregation is hosting a reception to welcome him from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 21C Museum Hotel. The reception includes the chance to meet the bishop while enjoying wine and tray-passed hors d'oeuvres. Tickets to the reception may be purchased online, using this link: //adventepiscopalky.ticketleap.com/reception-robinson/ All ticket proceeds and additional donations to go to support the growing ministries and mission of the Church of the Advent.
Church of the Advent is located at 901 Baxter Ave. in the Highlands area. 21C Museum Hotel is located at 700 W. Main St. in downtown Louisville. For more information about Bishop Robinson, visit //advent.episcopalky.org/robinson-visit-2011.html .
