Loading...To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, Calvary Episcopal Church will present a special Requiem Eucharist at 11 a.m. (EDT) on Sunday, September 11, 2011.
The Calvary Choir, conducted by Melvin Dickinson, will sing movements of the Requiem composed by Englishman John Rutter. Created in 1985, the Requiem aeternam and Kyrie, Pie Jesu, Sanctus, Psalm 23, and Lux aeterna will be sung at the appointed places as the Holy Eucharist is celebrated.
Calvary's Music Director Margaret Dickinson has also announced a series of services and other events that will be held at the church through September.
On September 17 (Saturday) at 7 p.m., musicians from around the community will join forces to present a concert in memory of Margaret Kulp. Among the offerings by singers from Choral Arts and others will be Bach Cantata 106, “God’s Time is the Best Time,” a particular favorite of Margaret Kulp. Orchestra members from Bourbon Baroque will accompany the cantata and also present instrumental pieces. James Rightmyer and Austin Clark will conduct.
On September 18 (Sunday), Calvary celebrates Holy Cross Day, the “patron day” for Calvary. In addition to celebrations of the Holy Eucharist, the annual parish picnic will be among the festivities planned.
On Saint Michael Eve, September 28 (Wednesday) at 5:30 p.m., the beloved service of Evensong will be held. The Calvary Evensong Choir, conducted by Melvin Dickinson, will sing music appropriate for the Feast of Saint Michael. The settings of the Magnificat and the Nunc dimittis are by David McKay Williams. The responses are by Thomas Tallis (1505-1585), one of the most respected English composers of the 16th century. Father Jonathan Erdman will chant the service. Margaret Dickinson will play organ music by Micheelsen, Three Angels Sang.
