Loading...May 9 was an unusually festive Sunday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Madisonville. Not only was it Mother’s Day, but a surprise celebration was planned to recognize with appreciation the 58 years of loyal and dedicated service of the Rev. Deacon Tom Mills and his wife Bobbi.
Both Tom and Bobbi have served the congregation and the Diocese of Kentucky in numerous capacities. While a lay reader, Tom often assisted at St. John's Episcopal Church in Morganfield. Since his ordination to the diaconate in 1987, his ministry has included new duties.
The congregation was unusually large with all of the Mills family as well as invited friends in attendance. A special potluck lunch followed the service, and St. Mary's rector, the Rev. Candyce Loescher, revealed the new gold lettering on the doors to the parish hall that now designate it Mills Hall in the couple's honor. Also, a beautifully framed portrait of the couple was displayed with words of dedication included.
Last, but not least, this truly special day in the life of the congregation was further marked during the lunch by the singing of "Happy Birthday" by the Rev. Beth Macke for St. Mary's rector.
