Loading...News is now available about workshops that are sure to be of interest to Episcopalians and will be offered at the 182nd Convention of the Diocese of Kentucky later this month. The workshops will explore topics ranging from the poetry of George Herbert to the issues of homelessness in rural and small towns.
The annual gathering of Kentucky Episcopalians will be at Grace Episcopal Church, 820 Broadway, in Paducah, the original site for the 2009 convention. Last year’s devastating ice storm, which caused extensive, wide spread damage in Paducah and much of western Kentucky, however, forced Grace Church to request that it be moved last year to Christ Church in Bowling Green.
In the past, workshops have been held on Saturdays during convention, before morning worship and the convention’s first business session of the day. This year, however, on the convention’s opening day, Friday, Feb. 26, convention organizers have scheduled 10 workshops and other convention business-related sessions between 1:30 and 4 p.m. (CT).
Five workshops will begin at 1:30 (CT): “Caring for Our Fragile Earth, Our Island Home”; “Staging the Story: Using Drama in Your Church”; “Living Our Faith: Stewardship in the 21st Century”; “Charter for Lifelong Formation” and “‘When the Storms of Life O’er Take Us:’ Preparing for Disasters & Catastrophic Events.”
Beginning at 2 p.m. will be “Voices of Homelessness in Western Kentucky.”
Four workshops will begin at 3 p.m.: “Wellness and Faithful Living”; “Amendments to and Restatements of the Charters of Trustees & Council and the Bishop Dudley Memorial”; “The Poetry of George Herbert”; and “Transforming Lives Through Outreach Projects.”
As offered at prior conventions, a “budget conversation” and a “resolutions conversation” each will begin at 3 p.m., and separate orientation sessions for all youth deputies and first-time adult deputies will start at 4 p.m. (CT).
