Loading...The Diocese of Kentucky Department of Christian Formation will host a workshop on "Godly Play for Those Living With or Caring For Adults with Alzheimer's Disease" on Saturday, Oct. 23.
The workshop will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (EDT) at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church 330 North Hubbards Lane, Louisville. The $10 registration fee covers the cost of materials and lunch. Reservations must be made by Oct. 20 by contacting Debbi Rodahaffer at drodahaf@stmatt-ky.org or 502-895-3485, ext. 105.
The workshop leader is the Rev. Lois Howard, an ordained Episcopal deacon presently serving at The Church of the Resurrection in Lexington. For the past 20 years, she has been a nationally accredited Godly Play trainer (one of the most used and respected curricula in the Episcopal Church for children and youth) and has worked extensively with the Rev. Dr. Jerome Berryman, the creator of the Godly Play program. She has been using this method with Alzheimer's patients for the past year 
and wishes to build this program into a valid ministry. Read Howard's article on "Dreaming on a Theme of Godly Play" (on page 2) to learn more about her work in this area.
The Rev. Lois Howard and her team from Lexington will present a five-hour training, which will include how to tell the stories to those living with Alzheimer's Disease using the Godly Play model as well as information about Alzheimer's disease and how best to work with these loving, caring folks. The training will be for everyone interested in learning more about this ground-breaking work, those who are interested in beginning to learn to do this so that they may work with Alzheimer's patients in their home parishes, and for those who would like this information so that they may begin to do this with family members.
Following is information about the team members who will be working with Howard:
- Robin Hamon, who has 20 years of experience with Alzheimer's disease. She has been a Social Worker with Sanders-Brown for eight years.
- Marie Smart, who has 23 years of experience with Alzheimer's disease and eight years of experience with elder care. She has been a Social Worker with Sanders-Brown for 21 years.
- Jeffrey Howe, who has been with Sanders-Brown for 24 years, is the Administrative Coordinator and a psychometrist. He has been a Deacon in the Small Church Ministry Consortium fo one year.
