Loading...The Psalms of Lament will be the text for a Lenten retreat planned and hosted by three Louisville Episcopal churches next month to help participants examine their own hearts during this season of "self-examination and repentance."
As the retreat organizers note in their invitation, the poetry and imagery of the Psalms, especially the Psalms of Lament, can be an aid to self-examination. "In worship, study, quiet, and response, we will spend time with four different Psalms of Lament, as we allow their imagery to speak to our own minds, hearts, and souls."
The Rev. Anne Vouga, assistant rector at St. Mark's, will lead the sessions on the Psalms, and worship will be led by the Rev. Ben Maas, St. Andrew's rector, and the Rev. Tim Mitchell, Advent's rector.
Meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. (ET), the retreat will be held at Advent, 901 Baxter Ave., on Sunday, March 7; at St. Andrew's, 2233 Woodbourne Ave., on Monday, March 8; and at St. Mark's, 2822 Frankfort Ave., on Tuesday, March 9. In addition, Vouga will preach at 5:30 p.m. March 6 on a Lenten Psalm during the Saturday night Eucharist at St. Mark’s. Maas and Mitchell will con-celebrate.
