New for 2011, this 14th annual event will include classes in floral arranging, visual art including collage and independent study. They will be offered among classes in photography, choir singing and direction, sewing, quilting and silk painting.
The conference draws men and women of all skill levels from across the Southeast. Students will attend hands-on classes in the morning, concentrating on one of seven areas:
- Singing for God with the Choir and Choir Director taught by Chris Brayne of Charlotte, N.C.
- Rejoice! Banners and Fabric taught by Pamela Hardiman of Farmington, Conn.
- Creating with Joy: Visual Art and Faith taught by Provie Musso of Daphne, Ala.
- Studio Time with Michele Roberts of Houston
- Beauty for Mind and Spirit on a Journey in Flowers taught by Louisa Rucker of Locust Grove, Va.
- Linens for Your Church taught by Marion Scoular of Duluth, Ga.
- Spirituality and Photography: Images of Transformation taught by Robin Smith of Columbia, S.C.
Instructors, who are some of the finest artisans in their fields, will offer optional afternoon workshops on topics including canvas preparation, recycling old church linens and walking the Stations of the Cross. Afternoons also may be spent working on projects, enjoying a massage or savoring views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the comfort of the Rocking Chair Porch.
"It's a week of creativity, wonder and special love that comes when friendships are made and deepened," said Lark Howell of Anniston, Ala., an expert in the nearly lost art of tatting who is coordinating the conference with Janet Hindsley, an accomplished needle worker from Washington, N.C.
Daily worship services will be led by the Rev. Kevin Johnson, rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Washington, N.C. As conference chaplain, he also will be available to meet individually with participants.
