Loading...Bishop Ted Gulick has sent the following letter to the clergy, diocesan officers and lay leaders regarding communications with Bishop-elect Terry Allen White.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Last night I had an extensive conversation with the Bishop-elect and among the many things we discussed was how he wished for this diocese to communicate with him during this significant season of transition for him and the life of the diocese.
The two of us have determined that he and I will have a standing conversation at 11 a.m. every Tuesday. We are preserving on our schedules up to an hour and a half each week to give space for this conversation. During this time I and or other officers of the Diocese will have the opportunity to inform the Bishop-elect regarding occurrences in the Diocese, calendar requests for the Fall, specifics of transition planning, and the occasion for ongoing support as he and his family accomplish the move to Louisville. This "phone date" will be our primary mode of communication.
It is important to be reminded that the bishop elect remains the Dean of his Cathedral and is paid to be pastor of that congregation. Although the Bishop-elect is in our daily thoughts and prayers, he is not on our payroll. Therefore, we have a moral obligation to avoid encumbering him with inappropriate expectations for his time and energy at this time.
Please inform Michael Hutchins of urgent calendar request that the Bishop-elect must consider during this transition season. Please relay any other concerns to the Bishop, who will communicate those concerns directly to the Bishop-elect.
It is anticipated that the President of the Standing Committee, Chancellor, Vice President of Trustees and Council, and the Chair of the Transition Committee will be frequent participants in the Tuesday phone conversations.
