Diocesan News & Publications

Beginning in September, Cindy Williams and Matt Schaffner will lead the Cherub Choir at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, Harrods Creek, to cultivate a love of music and further their knowledge of God's word. The Cherub Choir is for children ages 3 to 2nd grade and will provide children with the opportunity to learn songs, motions and instruments to increase their understanding of God's love.

Cindy Williams has a Bachelor of Music in music therapy and is a board certified music therapist with Norton Healthcare. Currently, she provides music therapy services at Kosair Children's Hospital to patients who have cancer and other life threatening diseases. In addition to her work at the hospital, she served as the music therapist for Visually Impaired Preschool Services. There she assisted disabled children in achieving goals such as learning life skills and functioning in a classroom setting. Additionally, she served as the music director at Camp Quality Kentuckiana, where she oversaw all the musical activities and programs for children who have or have had cancer. She has assisted with fundraising events such as "Rockin' for Kids" and has performed as a vocalist for weddings and special events in the Louisville community.

Matt Schaffner is a music instructor at Bellarmine University, Jefferson Community College and Carroll County High School. He has also taught at the University of Louisville and Centre College. He is a freelance composer and arranger. His music has been performed at several events, including performances by Art! Art!, Barking Dog Dance Company, Moyamo Dance and the Louisiana State University Percussion Ensemble. Some of his arrangements have been featured on television and radio commercials and in documentaries.

The Choir will rehearse on Thursday evenings, and parents will have opportunities to be involved. The Cherub Choir will perform for the church several times throughout the year in seasonal and special events. If you are interested in having your child participate in the choir, contact Cindy Thompson at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church at 502-228-1176.
