Loading...The Society of Professional Journalists, partnering with The Interfaith Paths to Peace, is hosting a panel discussion for journalists and the general public who want to know more about Islam. The event will discuss issues related to the portrayal of Islam in the media and the issues journalists face in covering Islam.
This free event will be held at 7 p.m. (EDT) Monday, October 18, at the Bishop’s Hall, Christ Church Cathedral, 425 S. Second St., Louisville. The discussion is open to the public.
Journalists on the panel are Peter Smith, the faith and religion reporter for The Courier-Journal, and Stephen George, formerly editor of LEO, who now works for The City Paper in Nashville and has covered the controversy surrounding the building of several mosques in Tennessee. Joining them on the panel will be Haleh Karimi, who is a Shiite Moslem and a founding member of the Independent Moslems of Louisville, and Aly A. Farag, president of Muslim Community Center in Louisville.
