Loading...Those who were there know just how beautiful, and meaningful, St. Alban’s 50th Anniversary Celebration was for the congregation of Episcopalians that meets in the Fern Creek area of Metro Louisville.
The celebration of this milestone in a church's life took months of planning and preparation by the small congregation’s members. Their effort was paid off by a memorable occasion on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 that brought together nearly 100 friends, guests, current and former members. Among them were several former choir members, who had joined the current choir to prepare for this occasion and lend their voices to sing several hymns chosen carefully for the anniversary.
The service began with a compelling ceremony, when the anniversary candle was passed among those representing generations of parish leadership, beginning with the parish’s founding rector, the Rev. Lester Gross. The current senior warden, Reid Whitacre, finally passed the candle to Bishop Terry Allen White, who preached and presided over communion,
assisted by the current rector of St. Alban’s, the Rev. Paul Collins, and other clergy members.
After the service, the celebration moved downstairs to a reception that included entertainment provided by the students of the Amazing Kids Christian Academy, who performed several songs while demonstrating the other skill they are learning, sign language, at the school newly established on St. Paul's campus.
The bishop’s sermon about the mission of a church – and the celebration as a whole – promise to be the springboard for keeping mission at the forefront of the congregation's collective mind as they look ahead to consider opportunities and possibilities for doing Christ’s ministry for years go come.
