Loading...Dear Episcopal brother/ sister,
I am a member of St Francis in the Fields and our parish coordinator for Habitat outreach. In past years, we have partnered with Episcopal churches and others in the community to build Habitat houses here in Louisville. It has been an experience that goes far beyond helping one family to achieve home ownership and we plan to do it again this year as part of Habitat's Interfaith Community Effort (ICE). If you are already a partner, thank you. if not, we want to invite you, and others in your church, to be part of our outreach team.
The 2011 Habitat ICE project is just getting organized. There is still a lot to be decided but here is what we do know.
· We will start construction in mid June.
- It will be a rehab of an existing structure.
- Jim Richey, a St Francis member, will be construction manager for this house. He has experience and has completed 3 rehabs for Habitat.
- Three (3) groups have signed on to participate, St Francis in the Fields, the Lutheran community and the Jewish community.
- Cost of the ICE project is $25,000. Most of the funds have been raised (about 80%) and donations of any amount are welcome but please do not focus on the financial donation. We understand that budgets are very thin and there are other equally important ways to help on the ICE House.
My primary goal, and the focus for this request, is to get as many members of the Episcopal Community involved in house construction as possible. Boots on the ground with saws, hammers, and paint brushes in continuous motion. There is no doubt that participation in Habitat provides a helping hand for a worthy family. That is a given, but for me, meeting and making friends in our community, is the second most important aspect of the Habitat experience.
I plan to contact "Episcopal Champions" over the coming weeks to explain what is involved in the 2011 ICE house. Please e-mail or call if you and/or others would like to discuss the project (I didn't say commit) in more detail. I would be happy to attend any meeting to provide background or answer questions for members of your parish.
