Loading...The Transition Committee has released its plans for the consecration of the Diocese of Kentucky's next bishop, pending consents from the Episcopal Church's bishops and standing committees. Anticipating a Sept. 25 consecration, the committee is seeking monetary donations for gifts for Bishop-elect Terry White, is taking reservations for two pre-consecration events on Friday, Sept. 24, and recruiting acolyte teams.
White's consecration as the diocese's eighth bishop is scheduled to take place during a service beginning at 11 a.m. (EDT) Sept. 25 in the Archibald Cochran Ballroom (Rivue Tower) at the Galt House, 140 N. Fourth St., in downtown Louisville.
All clergy are invited to participate in the procession, and each congregation is asked to designate a member
(preferably a youth) to carry the parish banner in the procession. The Transition Committee is also recruiting 10 acolyte teams (a crucifer and two torch bearers) for the service. The first 10 congregations to submit forms for acolyte teams will be used. (Additional details for clergy, banner bearers and acolytes may be found at the end.)
A reception will follow the service in the Galt House's Grand Ballroom A (Suite Tower).
The day before
On Friday, Sept. 24, the diocese's clergy will meet with Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, who will officiate at the consecration service, and they and their spouses/partners have been invited to a luncheon at noon. The clergy meeting will be from 10 a.m. to noon (EDT) in the Galt House's Willow Room (Rivue Tower). The luncheon will follow at noon in the Wilkinson Room (Suite Tower). Reservations for the luncheon must be made by Sept. 15, using the Transition Committee's luncheon reservation form.
That evening, a reception and dinner will be held at the nearby Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. Sixth St., beginning at 6 p.m. (EDT). During the dinner, the bishop-elect will be presented with traditional gifts from the diocese. The event is open to all, but tickets are required. The tickets, which cost $50 per person, must be purchased by Sept. 15, using the Transition Committee's ticket form.
Gifts for a new bishop
The Transition Committee is asking for monetary donations to provide for the consecration gifts (a bishop's cope, miter, chasuble, stole, rochet and chimere, cassock, crozier, pectoral cross and ring). Checks should be made out to Trustees and Council (with "Bishop White's gift" in the memo line) and sent to the Rev. Rose Bogal-Allbritten, St. John's Episcopal Church, 1620 W. Main St., Murray, KY 42701.
Additional details for visitors, clergy and churches
Hotel Accommodations: A block of rooms has been reserved at the Galt House. The rooms are reserved under "Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky Bishop Consecration" and may be reserved by calling 1-800-843-4258. The deadline for reservations is Sept. 10. The room rate is $130 (single/double), $140 (triple) or $150 (quad) plus state and local taxes.
Consecration procession: Clergy planning participate in the procession are to be vested in alb and white stole. They are to assemble in the Holly Room (Rivue Tower).
Parish banners: Congregations have been asked to have their parish banner carried in the procession. Most of the congregations have banners stored at Christ Church Cathedral, but not all. A completed form identifying the bearer of the parish banner is to be returned to the Rev. Rose Bogal-Allbritten. Those who store their banners at their church should make sure they are delivered to the cathedral's parish administrator, P'tricia Egbert, by Monday, Sept. 20.
Acolyte teams: Churches that wish to have a three-person acolyte team participate in the service should complete a form provided by the Transition Committee. Crucifers are asked to bring their congregation's processional cross; torches will be provided. The Transition Committee has announced that it will use teams from the first 10 congregations from which a completed form is received.
