The Rt. Rev. Nathaniel Garang Anyieth is a hero of many faithful Sudanese Christians. He visited Louisville in 2009 and Jeffersonville, Ind. in 2003. Bishop Nathaniel is retiring on March 1, 2011, and his friends and supporters here are being asked to contribute to a gift for him: a home where he can retire.
Born in 1940 in a small village called Deer in the Diocese of Bor within Dinka tribe, Bishop Nathaniel was a gift to the Southern and the Juanbian (the native) Sudanese. He offered himself to fight for the freedom of Southern Sudan in the 1970's. He was called by God to seek ordination to the priesthood, and left Sudan to attend the African Pentecostal School of Theology in Kenya, to be ordained in1976.
Afterwards, he returned to Sudan.
The second civil war, which has destroyed the country, started in the South in 1983. In 1984, Bishop Nathaniel was consecrated Bishop of the Diocese of Bor in Juba, Sudan. He was the first bishop to encourage the people of the region to abandon their traditional gods and follow the Living Christ. Also, he has played a big part in the Sudan movement by telling the world for several years about the Christians in southern Sudan. The other bishops inside Khartoum were not allowed to speak and were restricted from leaving Sudan (if they did, they would be killed), but Bishop Nathaniel did it with God's help.

Bishop Nathaniel has worked hard for his people, preaching the word of the Lord for 26 years without any benefit for his work. As you may know, more than two million lives have been lost in the civil war. The Southern Sudan has been torn apart for decades. There is no system for retirement there as we have here in America.
The Episcopal Diocese of Bor has formed a committee to put their hands and hearts to raise funds within the diocese and outside Sudan in order to build a home for the bishop before his retirement.
So, I, Daniel Kuch Kuol, am sharing news of his ministry and retirement to ask fellow Christians to contribute some money to help buy a nail or a brick for the home. I know that we are in a very terrible financial crisis that affects every one in the USA, but the little hand you give will make a big difference.
Please, if you have something to give, make a check to the Church of the Resurrection and note in the memo line that the donation is for the retiring Bishop of the Diocese in Bor (BDB). Then send it to me before Christmas so that I can send your gifts to the Diocese of Bor.
