Loading...Resurrection Episcopal congregation includes a wonderful mix of refugees from Sudan and Burma, and each Sunday our languages and music blend into fine harmony as we worship the Lord.
The church, located at 4100 Southern Parkway in central Louisville, has two services each Sunday morning: the first at 9:45 a.m., when the choir includes young people from Karen and Karenni families; the second, a Sudanese service, partially in Dinka, at 11:30 a.m. (all times Eastern).
Resurrection’s music ministry, indeed, is one of the strengths of our growing congregation. Music Director Tom Bailey maintains a vigorous program that intentionally incorporates the language and music of our Karen families and the songs and instrumental support of the Karenni members.
The congregation is committed to nurturing the music ministry. In July, 14 to 18 young people attended a three-day music camp, organized by Bailey, for choir members who are rising sixth graders and older. These young people can be seen and heard raising their voices in praise to “bring us to God” in a video, filmed by Harry Harrman, the congregation’s resident photographer, at the Sunday service following the July 18-21 camp. The video will be posted on the diocese's website soon, so please return to our website in a couple of days and visit the Media Center.
The congregation also has committed to support, supervise and find funding for an intern participating in the Episcopal Youth Services’ “New Seeds Intern Program.” Part of our plan is to continue the training that started with the music camp.
