Loading...St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church welcomes renowned sculptor and author, Ed Hamilton, on Sunday, Nov. 14, who will discuss a life of daily appreciation of the power of faith at the 10:15 a.m. (EST) adult education program.
Hamilton is a Louisville native whose commissioned work is on exhibit in many cities of our country. Some of his best known works include his Booker T. Washington Memorial in Hampstead, Va.; the Joe Louis Memorial in Downtown Detroit; the Amistad Memorial in New Haven, Conn.; and his historic and compelling rendition of the forgotten soldiers of color in the Spirit Of Freedom memorial in Washington, D.C. Several of his pieces are here in our own hometown, including the Statue of York and the Lincoln memorial on the waterfront among several others in Louisville and the State. He has also been inducted into the Gallery of Great Black Kentuckians, selected as the recipient of the Arthur M. Walters Champion of Diversity Award and Urban League Diversity Award, received several honorary degrees, and was the recipient of the prestigious National Education Association's 2010 Carter G. Woodson Memorial Award for his efforts in the human and civil rights realm.
St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church is located at 6710 Wolf Pen Branch Rd. at the corner of U.S. 42 and Wolf Pen Branch in eastern Jefferson County. Worship hours are 8, 9 and 11 a.m. and noon, with education programs from 10:15–11 a.m. for adults, children and youth.
