St. Peter's sweet endeavor

Diocesan News & Publications

St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Gilbertsville held a candy drive in partnership with a parishioner to collect Halloween candy to send to children in Iraq.

Fred Hill, St. Peter's parishioner, poses in front of Halloween candy bound for Iraqi children

The parishioner, Fred Hill, who lives in Cinncinnati, Ohio, spends much of his time at Kentucky Lake and is a very active member of St. Peter's.  A dentist, he came up with an idea for this "sweet endeavor" to buy candy for $1 per pound from children who received an over abundance at Halloween.  The candy is now being packed for shipment to Iraq. It will be distributed to Iraqi children by Fred's son, who is stationed in Bagdad. There hope is that God's love will shine through, as these children enjoy candy for a day instead of dodging bullets.
