Loading...Seamen's Church in Paducah is gearing up for Easter on the River 2011, and it is seeking help from the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky's congregations to ensure another success. There are at least three ways Kentucky Episcopalians can help.
Parishioners are asked to collect individually wrapped candies for the Easter boxes between now and March 24. (Unwrapped candies tend to bleed on other contents). The ministry's organizers want to pack each Easter box withenough candy for every person onboard to enjoy some. Figuring an average towboat crew at 10 people, that means the program needs lots of candy.
The Seamen's Institute also tries to include handmade greeting cards in the Easter boxes going out on the river - when we have enough, that is. Sadly, sometimes we run out. We hope the children and youth at your churches will help out by making cards for the hardworking towboat crews this Easter. Their colorful artwork and frequently creative spelling are big hit with the mariners and are very much appreciated.
And Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, Episcopalians and friends attending diocesan convention once again will have an opportunity to lend a hand -- literally -- by helping pack the Easter boxes. A traditional convention activity, the packing takes place during the lunch break between business sessions, approximately between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. (EST) in St. Matthew's Conversation Room.
