Loading...The Rev. Dr. Helen Hammon Jones, a priest with St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Louisville and former Norton Healthcare chaplain, has been named the recipient of the 2011 Oates Award.
The award, established by the Long Run Baptist Association in 1989, is given to a person "that has demonstrated exceptional qualities in the field of Pastoral Care and Counseling" for their ministry, leadership and personal integrity.
She will receive the award at a banquet co-hosted by the Long Run association and the Wayne E. Oates Institute, to be held October 6, 2011 in Louisville. During the banquet she will give an address on "Sitting Down Together."
Dr. Jones’ ministry has included contributions in leadership, education and personal service in the field of pastoral care. In the words of her nominator, “It is Dr. Jones’ work with individuals and their families that most distinguishes her ministry, leadership, and personal service. Her work for 30 years has been characterized by attention, presence, thoughtful listening, compassion, and a deep understanding of God’s enfolding sustenance.”
Dr. Ronald Oliver, system vice president for mission and outreach at Norton Healthcare, said of her ministry: "Helen is an expert clinician, reliable colleague, and good friend to us. In that same vein, The Oates Institute remains for us a steady and valuable resource for learning the pastoral art and expanding the boundaries of the field."
